One thing families often miss in the city is room to run. This January marked the first phase of a new citywide program, as five school playgrounds were opened up for weekend use by the public.

Mayor Gavin Newsom hopes the program—which will eventually unlock nine more school playgrounds—will expand
recreation opportunities for all City youth, no matter what neighborhood they call home. “I encourage all San Francisco families to use these newly opened playgrounds to stay healthy and spend more time together,” he said.
Of course, if you don’t have kids, you may wonder how much this program will cost you in taxes.

Fortunately, the City will manage all maintenance issues using staff and resources already on the budget, so the program will require no additional funding.
