San Francisco: Sports

San Francisco Giants (Baseball). There's nothing better than strolling down to Pac Bell Park to catch a Giants game. To get good seats on short notice, I use the Double Play ticket window to get extras from season ticket holders.

San Francisco 49ers (Football). 49ers fans are known for tailgating at Candlestick Park with caviar, wine and cheese.

Oakland Raiders (Football). Raiders fans are known for the Black Hole -- a rowdy group in the end zone who wear all black and scream at every opportunity.

Golden State Warriors (Basketball). The Warriors play next door to the Raiders at the Oakland Coliseum.

San Jose Sharks (Hockey). The Sharks play at The Tank in San Jose.

San Jose Earthquakes (Soccer). The Earthquakes made it to the first round of the playoffs in 2003.

Stanford University. The Stanford Cardinal have won the Sear's Director's Cup (for the nation's best athletic program) 9 years in a row.

University of California at Berkeley. The Cal Bears often give Stanford a run for its money, especially during the annual Big Game.

Bay to Breakers. The City's largest and wackiest road race has the largest number of centipedes, costumes, and naked people of any race in the nation. Watch out for the "salmon" running upstream -- they start at the end and run to the beginning.

Golf. This web site includes maps, descriptions, tee times, and prices for all courses in the Bay Area.
